Ninety percent of Jackson’s roads are in poor shape. The problem is a crisis, from vehicle damages, police not being able to perform high-speed cases because of it, drivers must dodge potholes and flooded streets when during heavy rains. Our current leadership constantly plays the blame game – blaming inadequate money for roads, lack of funding for maintenance, aging infrastructure, declining population/tax base and a failed water billing system. Hundreds of thousands of families felt the gravity of Jackson’s embattled water system before the federal takeover of the O.B. Curtis Water Treatment Plant because of the Mayor’s negligence. The City of Jackson has become a dumping ground, littered with abandoned properties (some owned by out-of-state investors, some city own properties and others that has been forfeited to the state due to nonpayment of taxes. Many have fallen into disrepair, creating eyesores and a public health hazards. Jackson’s aging infrastructure hampers our city’s ability to attract corporate investors and new residents. Investing in Jackson’s infrastructure will create jobs, enhance our roads and bridges, support businesses, boost our city’s economy and increase our population growth. It is time out for excuses – We must plan better, stop wasteful spending, and more efficiently use what we got.
As your mayor, Albert will:
- More efficiently use Jackson’s 1% tax, to enhance Jackson’s roads and bridges.
- Optimize city revenue to repair and restore Jackson’s infrastructure.
- Promote research and development of new materials, technologies, and processes to modernize and extend the lifespan of infrastructure, accelerate repairs or replacements, and achieve cost-effective solutions.
- Work with local, state, federal, and national leaders in finding and approving more funding for infrastructure improvement in Jackson.
- Hold all property owners accountable for their properties.
