Improving Education

If Albert’s decades in working with youth and young adults in the education field have taught him anything, it is that the students of Jackson are no less capable than the students of cities and states that are ranked comparatively higher. Rather, there has been a disconnect between the leadership of Jackson and the youth in the City of Jackson (penalized with curfews and criticism versus rewards).

As Jackson’s next mayor, Albert will:

• Increase funding and create new funding sources for supplemental education support utilizing general funds, CDBG funds, and other state-federal grant incentives.
• Create youth social and civic engagement and more summer job opportunities through the Mayor’s Youth Initiative.
• Emphasize STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) after-school programs to boost school, college, or career readiness.
• Make apprenticeship programs, vocational schools, community colleges, and universities more assessable and accessible.
• Invest in affordable and high-quality childcare for all families.
• Create more venues for young people (renovate and reopen city parks), and entice youth-focused businesses to Jackson.
